When the Flawless team arrived at NAMI Palm Beach County for our wellness workshop, the room held what so many wellness spaces hold at the start of the session. Some participants walked in carrying stress. Others came with emotional weight or overwhelm. The class was designed to meet them exactly where they were, with gentle, accessible movement and breath that anyone could follow from a chair.
The workshop was led by our somatic movement teacher, Jennifer Baez as part of our ongoing partnership with Digital Vibez and the Let’s Move 365 Initiative, the year-round community wellness program that works to bring free, inclusive fitness and wellness education in Palm Beach County. Somatic movement and chair yoga sit comfortably inside that mission. Both modalities prioritize gentle, intentional movement over intensity, which makes them welcoming to participants of all ages and abilities.
As the session progressed through breathwork and gentle somatic practices, the change in the room was evident.
“As they begin to move, breathe, and reconnect with their bodies, there’s a visible softening,” Baez shared. “Their posture lifts, their expressions brighten, and they become more present and at ease.”
One moment from the class captured the work better than any explanation could. A participant arrived visibly distressed, sharing that they were frustrated and overwhelmed by an ongoing issue in their personal life. It was clear their minds were looping around the problem. By the end of the session, after working through the somatic practices and chair yoga, that same participant was speaking from a different place. Their nervous system had settled, their thinking had cleared, and they were expressing new ideas and solutions to the problem they had been experiencing, and their overall energy had completely lifted.
For our flawless facilitator, experiences like this one highlight what movement can do beyond the physical.
“Movement is not just physical,” she shared. “It’s a powerful tool for emotional regulation, mental clarity, and resilience.”
Beyond what each participant takes home individually, the room itself does something. People connect with their own bodies and with one another. A shared sense of support, presence, and joy develops in the space, the kind of community that brain health work depends on.
Let’s Move 365, carried forward by Digital Vibez, is dedicated to reducing the impact of metabolic syndrome and other chronic conditions linked to inactivity in the communities that need that support most. Bringing somatic movement and chair yoga to NAMI as part of that initiative means our friends there are part of something building across the country, one class and one neighborhood at a time.
“It’s an honor to be part of a program that creates such tangible shifts in well-being,” Jennifer said, “helping people feel lighter, more connected, and more empowered in their daily lives.”
Thank you to NAMI Palm Beach County and Digital Vibez for this collaboration and to every participant who shows up ready to move, to breathe, and to share the space with one another.
