At the Flawless Foundation, we continue to be deeply moved by the advocacy work of Kenneth Cole. His unwavering commitment to social justice, mental health awareness, and corporate consciousness has set a standard few can match.
We last had the privilege of meeting Kenneth Cole at the screening and Q&A for America Unfiltered: Portraits and Voices of a Nation at the Kenneth Cole Gallery. This powerful documentary explores identity, mental health, and the complexities of being American today—themes that resonate deeply with our mission. Hearing Kenneth speak about his work reaffirmed how essential storytelling is in shifting perspectives and creating change.
Our admiration only grew at the Justice Film Festival, where they screened A MAN WITH SOLE: THE IMPACT OF KENNETH COLE. The film, followed by a compelling discussion with director Dori Berinstein, Kenneth Cole himself, and Professor Vasilios Christofilakos, highlighted Kenneth’s trailblazing approach to corporate activism. Long before “corporate social responsibility” became a buzzword, Kenneth was leading the charge—being an AIDS Activist, shedding light on critical social injustices, and launching the Mental Health Coalition (MHC) to address what he calls the greatest epidemic of our time. The MHC aims to change the tone with which we approach mental health challenges and create a more open, supportive society. The MHC brings together leading nonprofits, businesses, and influential voices to provide education, advocacy, and accessible resources for mental health. At its core, the coalition operates on the belief that mental health is health—just as important as physical well-being.
Through innovative campaigns, storytelling, and community-driven efforts, the MHC fosters dialogue around mental illness, breaking down barriers to care and support, and encourages collaboration amongst the many players with a common cause.
Kenneth Cole’s work is a testament to what’s possible when passion meets purpose. His ability to fuse brilliant marketing with a relentless dedication to humanity is nothing short of inspiring. The campaigns he has led for more than 40 years were so witty and creative, that at certain points, the theatre audience could not hold back their laughter throughout the film’s screening. It is evident that Kenneth’s interdisciplinary approach broke boundaries and redefined the potential for change and the agents who can facilitate meaningful activism. At Flawless, we remain motivated by his example and are honored to be on the same team working together for a more Flawless World of inclusion and strong mental health for all.
