Georgie
Hi, I’m Georgie Blenkey from Secaucus, New Jersey. I’m going into my junior year at Columbia College Chicago where I’m studying Advertising Art Direction and Graphic Design! In my internship with Flawless, my main role is in social media, particularly Instagram. I joined Team Flawless almost two years ago as a freshman in college, and since then, I have learned more than I could imagine about mental health advocacy and particularly how it can intersect with social media. I’ve always been passionate about topics surrounding brain health and how we as a society approach these issues. Since interning with the Flawless Foundation, I have had the opportunity to learn more about all aspects of mental health, from legislation and policy to advocacy to self-care. I’ve learned that social media can be an extremely valuable tool for educating and raising awareness for brain health and other issues.
What I learned has been so helpful to me as a college student, as I often have a stressful schedule. Self-care has become an important part of my daily routine and I appreciate the culture at Flawless that emphasizes self-care and making sure that you are taking care of yourself when you need to. On top of that, I appreciate how at Flawless we are given the opportunity to work on projects which best align with our talents and passions. For example, I am an artist and have been given many creative projects to work on.
I’m also grateful for the education and experience surrounding social media that I have gained over the past two years. When I joined the Flawless Foundation, I was brand new to studying advertising and didn’t realize how important social media was to my chosen major. My experience with Flawless has given me a leg up over my peers when it comes to social media in a way I didn’t anticipate. My work here has made me feel more confident going into digital marketing classes at school and it makes me excited for my future potential with social media. Overall, I feel grateful that I have had the opportunity to have a truly beneficial and educational intern experience so far that I know I will carry with me into the future.
