Reflections from our interns

My internship with the Flawless Foundation has been one of the most inspiring and eye-opening experiences of my life. Through the constant support at Flawless, I have had the opportunity to attend the Jed Foundation Gala and the Hope House ribbon-cutting ceremony, where I heard speeches and met people who exposed me to challenges and emotions I didn’t know existed. I have been able to conduct interviews, write blogs, and create content both on Flawless initiatives and my own personal interests in mental health, deepening my understanding of psychology and public health along the way, and I am truly grateful for every single one of those opportunities.
As I look forward to applying to and attending college, I find myself constantly drawing on what I have learned here. The perspective Flawless has given me on mental health and wellness shows up in conversations, in classrooms, in relationships, and in moments I never expected. Surprisingly, since my first day, my definition of what it means to be Flawless has grown entirely.
To me now, “you are Flawless” means that every part of you is worthy, that what others may see as a weakness is your own strength, and that you should always accept every part of yourself and others.
That belief pushed me further than I expected. However, one of my most memorable lessons, going beyond all the habits, science, and communication skills I have gained, is the courage to show up in spaces where I do not feel like I belong – because that is the only way to grow.

My internship with Flawless Foundation has been an experience that I will always remember. One thing that really surprised me was learning how important brain health and wellness are in every part of life, not just when someone is struggling. It helped me realize that taking care of your mental well-being is just as important as taking care of your physical health. One of my favorite parts of the internship was attending the workshops. I especially enjoyed the workshops where we colored and played Uno because they showed me how simple activities can bring people together, reduce stress, and create a positive environment. It was a fun way to connect with others while also learning about wellness.
Outside of my internship, I play football and run track. Before every game or meet, I have a pregame tradition of praying and listening to music. It helps me stay focused, confident, and ready to compete.
Being part of the Flawless team has strengthened my sense of purpose by reminding me that encouraging and supporting others can make a real difference.
The phrase “You are Flawless” now means that everyone has value, unique strengths, and the ability to grow, no matter what challenges they face. If I could describe this internship in three words, they would be inspiring, rewarding, and empowering because it helped me grow as a person, build new connections, and gain a better understanding of the importance of brain health. As I continue working toward my future goals, I know the communication, teamwork, and leadership skills I’ve developed through Flawless Foundation will stay with me and help me succeed both on and off the field.

My internship at Flawless has been an experience I’ll always be grateful for. One of my favorite parts is spending time at the Mental Health America Belle Glade Clubhouse. Every workshop reminds me how important community and connection are for overall wellness. I also love how family-oriented Flawless is. From the team meetings to our “Question of the Day,” everyone is encouraged to share, laugh, and get to know one another.
It created an environment where everyone felt seen and valued.
This internship has helped me grow both personally and professionally while reminding me that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference. If I could give advice to someone who’s nervous about stepping into a role like this, I’d say don’t let fear stop you from saying yes. Be open to learning, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. You never know how much you’ll grow or whose life you’ll impact until you take that first step.

Stepping into my first internship with the Flawless Foundation as a fifteen-year-old was an unforgettable, eye-opening experience.
During my time on the team, I got to jump right into hands-on support, taking photos and videos at workshops, handing out supplies during workshop activities, giving out temporary tattoos to kids at the Jamathon table, and participating in outreach efforts to deliver backpacks filled with water and bananas to people experiencing homelessness.
My favorite moment was participating in the Jamathon because connecting with other kids my age and seeing their reaction to the temporary tattoos gave me a better perspective of our impact. It surprised me how powerful simple acts of kindness are in supporting mental and emotional well-being, and it showed me that every small connection matters. Being part of this team gave me a greater sense of purpose.
If I had to describe this internship in three words, they would be eye-opening, empowering, and impactful. For anyone feeling nervous about stepping into a role like this, my best advice would be to stay open and remember that being willing to help and listen is more than enough. Outside of interning, I stay busy with school, playing sports, where my favorite pregame ritual is listening to my pump-up playlist to get in the zone, and hanging out with my cousins. As I continue my long-term journey, the empathy, confidence, and leadership skills I gained at Flawless will stay with me every step of the way.
