You may have habits and behaviors you want to change, but focusing on improving your life when you’re so busy with work, school, and social obligations can be difficult. To help you take steps toward living the life you want, below are seven things to start doing immediately.
1. Start Hanging Out With Positive People
You can’t control how other people behave, but you can control who you spend your time with. If someone in your life constantly brings you down, distance yourself from their presence, and surround yourself with positive people who want to see you succeed. Negative people can prevent you from achieving your goals. Choose happiness, and find friends who inspire you to be better each day.
2. Start Putting Your Own Needs Ahead of Other People’s Needs
Stop putting your own needs on hold. If you don’t like your job, or you’re unhappy with something in your life, take small steps towards things that make feel good. Start doing things for you, such as watching movies you like, taking up a hobby, or starting an exercise regimen.
3. Start Doing Something Better (Ditch That Job)
You probably know what you don’t like about your job, whether it’s a long commute or burnout. But if you aren’t doing something that excites you every day, it’s difficult to remain motivated. So consider a job change if a better opportunity comes along. Better yet, start a home business. Here are some tips to get you started:
• Create a dedicated workspace to separate work from your personal life.
• If you’re a parent, try to arrange childcare that works for your schedule.
• Include your kids by giving them small tasks to do.
• Keep regular hours.
• Join a Support Group
• Devise a routine for accomplishing tasks.
• Invest in software to save time on accounting and bookkeeping tasks.
4. Start Consuming Less Sugar
If you’re trying to be healthy or lose weight, sugar isn’t your friend. Instead of high-sugar cereals, opt for whole-grain versions with low sugar content. Rather than eating sugary yogurt, try yogurt with fresh fruit or honey. Switch to sugar-free drinks made with stevia, including unsweetened ice tea and coffee.
5. Start Measuring Your Success Without Comparing it to Others
Part of what prevents many people from achieving their goals is comparing themselves to others. Just because your friend’s startup just sold for millions doesn’t mean you need to become frustrated and abandon your early-stage startup. Just keep doing what works for you. If you follow successful entrepreneurs on social media, don’t measure yourself against them but use their success as inspiration and motivation. Remember – You have a different story and a different journey ahead of you.
6. Start Learning From Your Setbacks
After a setback, it’s easy to let negative emotions keep you down. That can slow your progress and keep you from working toward your goals. To prevent a lapse in motivation after a disappointment, make a conscious effort to understand why things didn’t go as planned, learn from it, and move forward.
7. Take Control
Save yourself from regret by working on solving problems now before they overwhelm you. Prevention is the key to health and wellbeing on every level. Visit our Flawless Foundation blog and social media for more wellness tips.
