We recently sat down with Debbie Rosas, the founder of the Nia Technique for a Flawless Talk about all things well-being and health. Here are five helpful tips she shared with us.
- Body First
One of the most important pillars on which Debbie Rosas’ Nia Technique was built is the prioritization of a meaningful relationship with your body. Debbie reminds us that the relationship you have with yourself is one of the most important connections that you can foster and that it goes beyond just proper nutrition and exercise. Our bodies are multidimensional and it is important to take care of every aspect of our being. Practicing self-care can help you stay in tune with and nurture yourself and that can be as simple as taking a second to smile, or as Debbie advises, sanctioning a 60-second dance break.
- Practice Patience and Focus
In an age of social media and instant gratification, Debbie reminds us to practice patience and remain focused on our vision. She attributes her success to this particular gem of wisdom. Practicing patience allows you to cancel out the noise and truly have faith in your vision. Rushing to achieve a goal can lead you to believe that your dreams are out of reach when they could be right around the corner.
- Develop a Personal Philosophy
Developing a personal philosophy is the key to determining how you’d like to live your life and can be a great way to change your perspective. If your life philosophy is to value beauty, you’ll find yourself surrounded by beauty because you actively seek it. If your philosophy in life is to always be kind you’ll find yourself reaping the benefits of that kindness and spending less time having negative thoughts & interactions. Choosing your own philosophy for life allows you to gain control of your narrative instead of passively experiencing what life may decide for you. Your philosophy is all about how YOU choose to see things and what YOU choose to experience and can make all the difference in how you view the world.
4. Get Comfortable with “Plateaus”
Plateaus are a normal aspect of life and shouldn’t be seen as periods of stagnancy but as moments of evolution. When we come across plateaus in our life it can be frustrating when you feel like you are at a standstill. Debbie reminds us that we are ALWAYS in motion. To get comfortable with these periods in your life, you can view them as space for self-reflection, mindfulness, or even a time to hone in on your goals & figure out your next move. Sometimes your greatest breakthrough can be right on the other side of what may be a much-needed break. So, think of your plateaus as less of a roadblock and more like your very own chrysalis, preparing you for your next chapter as a butterfly!
5. Remember the “We”
We always like to ask our guests what gives them hope and in this interview, Debbie answered by challenging us to always remember the “We.” Remembering that we are a part of the human family experiencing life together helps us to feel more connected and less alone. What may seem like a daunting feat to face becomes much smaller when you know you are not experiencing it or working to change it by yourself. It is important to remember we are better together and we can look to each other for support and inspiration. We can find hope in knowing that no issue in front of us is greater than the power we have as one collective body.
